Six spices, one cup
Masala is the spice mix many Indian homes keep for their tea. Here we put a version of it into coffee: ginger, cinnamon, green cardamom, clove, black pepper and nutmeg, ground in with the beans.
It is still coffee. There is no tea, no milk and no sugar in the pouch.

Ginger leads, and the others come in behind it in smaller amounts.

Pour one
Put 2 level teaspoons (about 6 g) in a cup, add 150 ml of hot water, stir, and let it sit for a minute. Use a filter or French press if you prefer, at the same ratio. For a cold version, stir the coffee into 50 ml of hot water, then add ice and cold water.
A pouch makes roughly 30 cups. The grind is fine, so expect a little sediment.

Common questions
Is this like masala chai?
It borrows the spices, not the drink. Chai is tea with milk and sugar. This is coffee with spices and nothing else.
Will it taste hot or spicy?
Black pepper is a small part of the blend, so you get a light bite at the end, not heat like a chili.
Can I drink it with milk?
Yes. Add your own milk or sweetener at home.
Anything I should know about caffeine?
It is made with coffee, so yes, it has caffeine. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or on regular medicines, check with your doctor. Not for children.
