What is Tamarind Seed Powder?
Tamarind seed powder is made from the seeds of the tamarind tree, Tamarindus indica, known in India as Imli Beej or Chincha Beej. The glossy brown seeds are found inside the sticky tamarind pod. They are cleaned, sun-dried and finely ground into a smooth powder, with no fillers and no artificial additives.
In Ayurveda the tamarind tree is well known, and the seed is described as an astringent, slightly sweet and dry ingredient. It is taken in small amounts as a simple powder with water.
